Issac Paul Olakkengil, a civil engineer from Naduvilangadi village in Kerala’s Thrissur district, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after experiencing breathing difficulties during a beginner-level diving session.
The incident occurred at a designated diving area where Issac was participating in training alongside his wife Reshma and younger brother Ivin. According to family members, he began struggling to breathe underwater and became separated from the group.

“They were participating in a beginners’ training session when Issac began to struggle with his breathing and drifted away from the rest of the group,” David Pyarilos, Issac’s uncle, told local media.
“Everybody panicked and was impacted underwater. I was told Reshma was rescued to the shore first, followed by the other two,” Pyarilos added.
Issac was immediately pulled from the water and rushed to a nearby hospital, but medical staff were unable to revive him. He was declared dead with cardiac arrest cited as the cause of death.
His brother Ivin also collapsed during the incident and remains under medical observation, though he is reported to be out of danger. Family members said Ivin was only informed of his brother’s death on Saturday.

“All of them are engineers. While Issac and Reshma live in Dubai, Ivin is based in Abu Dhabi. Ivin’s friends told me they are struggling to break this heart-wrenching news to him, as the brothers shared a strong bond,” Pyarilos told Gulf News.
Dubai Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident and seized the diving equipment used during the training for detailed examination. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The family is currently coordinating with police officials and relevant authorities to complete the necessary documentation for repatriating Issac’s body to India.
“We are working with the authorities to repatriate his mortal remains after we receive the necessary legal documents,” Pyarilos confirmed while assisting the family with legal procedures.
