The RTA also withdraws original licences when exchanges complete.

Typical charges are a traffic file opening fee and a licence issuance fee, plus the eye test and minor levies. Published figures show roughly Dh200 for a traffic file and Dh600 for licence issuance, with eye tests and delivery fees extra. Licence validity is generally one year for those under 21 and two years for applicants 21 and above. Delivery can be digital, printed at self-service kiosks, or couriered for an extra fee.
Testing exemptions, conditional assessments and special cases
Many applicants from approved countries avoid RTA driving school courses and road tests. But where the licence is from a non-authorised country, or if the applicant’s nationality differs from the licence issuing country, the RTA may require knowledge and/or road tests.
