A thin crescent moon was seen over the UAE early Tuesday morning, quietly signalling that Ramadan is nearing its end, with Eid Al Fitr drawing closer. The crescent appeared just after dawn, around 6am, and was photographed by Tamim Al Tamimi of the Emirates Astronomical Society on the 28th day of Ramadan (1447 AH).

Dawn sighting captured
Photographs from the morning show a faint, curved sliver of the moon hanging low over the skyline, visible briefly before sunrise. The skies were clear at the time, allowing for a clean view, and the images were soon picked up and shared across local platforms.
Forecast points to March 20 Eid
Latest astronomical estimates in the UAE suggest Ramadan will likely run the full 30 days this year. If that holds, Eid Al Fitr is expected to fall on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) said visibility conditions on March 18 are not favourable for spotting the Shawwal crescent, which supports the current projection.
Astronomers’ view
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, said the current observations are consistent with earlier forecasts, indicating that Ramadan will complete 30 days, with Eid likely towards the end of the week.
