Abu Dhabi has reached a transport milestone: 120 Level-4 Abu Dhabi robotaxis began commercial operations on 7 February 2026, ferrying passengers across multiple districts. The authority supervising the programme confirmed the fleet runs without safety drivers inside approved geofenced zones.

Fleet size and daily performance
Officials say the 120-vehicle fleet is fully commercial, not a pilot. The vehicles meet Level-4 autonomy standards and operate without safety drivers inside approved domains. Authorities report the fleet has logged hundreds of thousands of kilometres since trials began and averages up to 20 trips per vehicle per day at peak times. Reported operational safety performance stands at about 99.9%.
Coverage and new zones (as of 7 Feb 2026)
Active routes connect residential and commercial hubs. Core areas in service include Yas Island, Reem Island, Maryah Island, Saadiyat Island and central Abu Dhabi corridors. The network expanded on 7 February 2026 to include Khalifa City, Masdar City and Rabdan, linking homes with business districts and key attractions.
Integrated Transport Centre oversight

The centre manages permits, safety clearance and a central digital control platform. That system provides real-time vehicle tracking, performance telemetry and immediate incident alerts. Officials say expansions are approved only after controlled testing and regulator sign-off.
Smart and Autonomous Systems Council role
The council supervises policy, technical standards and cross-agency coordination for autonomous deployments. It remains the decision authority on zone approvals and large-scale rollouts.
Operators and commercial partnerships
The service launched after operator approvals and commercial tie-ups. International firm WeRide is a lead operator on the network and offers rides through the Uber platform. Abu Dhabi became Uber’s first market outside the US to host fully driverless vehicles in November 2025. Local partners manage fleet maintenance, customer support and charging.

Masdar City began fixed-route self-driving shuttle trials in July 2025, and last-mile autonomous delivery vehicle pilots started in September 2025. These pilots run alongside the robotaxi programme as part of a broader smart-mobility push.
